Dani Pedrosa of Spain won the season-ending Valencia Grand Prix on Sunday ahead of newly crowned world champion Valentino Rossi.
Jorge Lorenzo finished third to clinch the runner-up spot in the overall standings.
Casey Stoner, who won here last year, had been due to start from pole but was forced to retire after falling on the warm-up lap and high siding his bike while waving to the crowd.
The 250cc category was won by Hector Barbera, ahead of Alvaro Bautista in second and Raffaele de Rosa in third. Julian Simon won the 125 cc race, with Bradley Smith second and Pol Espargaro third.
